Why do you choose to eat healthy?
  • As a child she was super over weight because her mom was busy and would tell her to go get a snack. She just literally was responsible for feeding herself and so she made bad choices. In 4th grade she was 130 pounds and maintained it for 4 years. She then began to play Dance Dance Revolution everyday all day. When 5th grade came she had a growth spurt and grew 3 and a half inches. Eventually her weight evened out. She learned in high school how to eat right and work out right. In elementary she got put on a fat list. This has affected her life today. Her boyfriend was an overweight child too and they refer to themselves as CHF (childhood fatty). She even wrote about all this as her college entrance essay. Today she is confident but it was hard as a child.

  • She usually wears a t-shirt and shorts, and sneakers. She prefers comfy clothes but will dress up to go out or to church.

I found my this interview to be very interesting because she is very different from me. I think that this proves how diverse college students can be. She has plenty of activities that she is involved in, including sports, and dedicates a lot of her time to school. I think that this information also proves that not all college students are into the party scene. That is defiantly a stereotype because this girl realizes she can have fun without alcohol and she also has interests outside of just partying. I also think that this disproves some of the findings in the international chapter of My Freshman Year because this girl is very involved with her family and friends. I think that I can definitely use the information about how she eats for my final project because in a way it proves that people eat certain ways for certain reasons. She is fairly healthy and doesn’t want to go back to how she was as a child. My project will be to prove that students eat certain ways because of how they feel about themselves, and to analyze what people eat so I could use this information for sure. The most interesting point I found was although she was an overweight child, she is very tall and lean now. You never really know what a person was like or like until you ask them or uncover details.

The second person I interviewed is also a freshman at Bloomsburg University.

What is your major?

  • She is a nursing major, in hopes of being a nurse for the army.

Why did you choose this major?

  • She always knew that she wanted to help people and thought it would be nice to help people that help us to stay safe. They also pay for school since she is in ROTC, so that is a plus.

Why did you choose to go to Bloomsburg?

  • Bloomsburg’s nursing program has a really good reputation.

What clubs do you participate in?

  • She is in ROTC, a Red Cross club.

What sports do or did you play?

  • She enjoys track, volleyball, and basketball.

What is your schedule like?

  • She has already started a lot of harder classes. They are mostly science classes since she is a nursing major, but she also has one language class.

Do you get stressed easily from school work?

  • She may get stressed at first but it doesn't last too long. She said, “You can only do what you can do ya know?”

Do you enjoy the party scene?

  • No, she enjoys just staying in and chilling. She is also allergic to alcohol so the party scene sometimes becomes a problem when people start asking questions.

How often do you talk to your family?

  • She talks to them everyday pretty much. She might miss a day but usually not.

How well do you stay in touch with friends from home?

  • She will text them and maybe call when she gets time but she doesn’t obsess on constantly keeping in touch.

What do you wear every day?

  • She usually wears yoga pants and sweatshirt and sometimes her full ACU’s for ROTC.

What do you eat every day?

  • She eats breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.
  • Breakfast- she eats some kind of fruit, oatmeal, and a bagel with peanut butter.
  • Lunch- she either eats soup, salad, or some kind of meat like chicken.
  • Dinner- she usually eats pasta, chicken, and a salad

Why do you eat so healthy?

  • She is allergic to junk food like soy. If it doesn’t have soy it probably has food coloring or tree nuts which she is allergic to also. She is also allergic to shell fish. It becomes very difficult for her to eat and so she makes most of her meals in her dorm room and does not have a meal plan.

After interviewing this girl I realized that again there are students who are very dedicated to their work at school. She gets up at 5 am most mornings to make it to ROTC and has a heavy course load. For my project it proves that people eat healthy or unhealthy for a variety of reasons. If she had the choice to eat junk food and go wild she just might, but she doesn’t even have a choice. She has to eat healthy to keep her body healthy. This also proves that every person is different. There are so many interests that people can have and so many different opinions on when they call home etc. There is a variety to every person waiting to be discovered.
